Whiskey Baron
London Racing Club went international for their latest visit, with a generous invite from Adrian Beaumont to view South African Grade One winner Whisky Baron work six furlongs on the Rowley Mile. The Australian-bred five-year-old was partnered by regular South African jockey Greg Cheyne on his Suffolk spin. Despite the testing ground conditions, he took to the track well, watched keenly by members Joe de Souza & Kate Austin. Also observing were Derek Thompson & David Milnes(RP).
Whisky Baron worked with two horses from William Haggas’ yard, where he has been based since his arrival in June. Cheyne told us: "It was an interesting workout as we have always had a concern that Whisky Baron might not relish soft ground and, although I was not disappointed and feel quite positive about it, it did expose the fact that he doesn't handle soft going particularly well.” He will also never have experienced the undulating topography presented by the Rowley Mile.

Displaying an excellent temperament, and clearly taking everything in, this was an excellent introduction to the racecourse for a first piece of proper work for this very likeable horse.
Whisky Baron is owned by former England cricketer Craig Kieswetter and is set to contest the Shadwell Joel Stakes at HQ in a few weeks’ time. If all goes well, Whisky Baron will continue his travels and head off to Hong Kong for the feature December meeting.

Osborne Gallery Visit
One of London Racing Club’s summer events was a trip to the Osborne Studio Gallery to view the latest exhibition of Elie Lambert. The Belgian born artist has a deep history in the equine world, starting as an amateur rider age 18 before venturing into journalism representing Belgian racing in Paris Turf, Sporting Life and the Racing Post. Lambert also journeyed into the bloodstock industry and has consigned approximately 300 horses a year from England to Belgium, many of whom were winners. With the decline of Belgian racing in the late ‘80s Lambert turned to his other passion, art, and a decade later opened a gallery in Paris. Lambert had spent time sketching horses at the sales and after years of hard work began to see his own artwork in his gallery.
The gallery hosted over thirty exhibits of Lambert’s unique style – full of vibrant colours and original designs – with paintings of Deauville, Epsom, Newmarket and Chantilly just some of the locations captured.
One of Lambert’s most prestigious commissions of his career came from Shadwell. After narrowly missing out on producing the 2008 Shadwell Stallion Catalogue, Lambert was contacted to provide the artwork for the 2009 edition. Having worked closely with the Head Family throughout his bloodstock career Lambert chose the mighty miler Tamazyuz for his prized commission in the famous Maktoum colours.

LRC Visits Newmarket 20 May 2017
A small but appreciative group of LRC members took full advantage of Betway's generous offer of complimentary PREMIER badges to Saturday's Newmarket meeting on May 20th.
As the Champion series cantered on to Newbury's Lockinge, this quieter meeting gave us the opportunity to explore all areas of the course with ease. We were able to be on the head-on steps, seeing clearly the undulations & ridging that presents a real challenge over the 8f track.
All in all an excellent day. Huge thanks to Alan Alger for his kindness in donating the badges. We had a cracking time!
Epsom Welcomes the LRC 26 April 2017

Well! What a splendid way to kick off the LRC Flat season! Members of the LRC & their guests were quick to snap up the FREE grandstand tickets for Epsom's Spring Meeting, featuring the Derby trial & Metropolitan Handicap.
LRC members also had the benefit of a FREE viewing box, which, given the Arctic conditions, was really appreciated! Huge thanks to Epsom & Dan Cooper, LRC member & Jockey Club Events Co-ordinator, for generously facilitating a wonderful day. Hopefully, the Spring Meeting will become a regular LRC April event, marking the change from Jumps to the Flat season.
Before racing, some of us were lucky enough to visit the Gladiateur Suite, home of The Derby museum, to see the exhibits donated by the LRC last year. Here we are raising a glass in front of some of our Derby memorabilia. Cheers!
